H. Folmer & Co. delivers vital relief to Misrata

Friday afternoon a H. Folmer & Co. vessel, M/V Marianne Danica, reached Misrata port with a cargo of food, medical supplies and other relief items. The ship is on a charter for WFP (World Food Programme), who considers the arrival of the life-saving supplies to be a breakthrough for the UN humanitarian operation in Libya.

“This allows us to reach tens of thousands of people who are caught in one of the fiercest areas of conflict,” WFP Executive Director, Josette Sheeran, says.

Marianne Danica carried more than 600 metric tons of WFP food including wheat flour, vegetable oil and high energy biscuits - according to WFP enough to feed more than 40,000 people for a month.

The ship is also delivering medical supplies on behalf of UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO). These UNICEF and WHO emergency health kits and surgical material will cover the urgent needs for 50,000 people for a month.  Also two doctors are on board Marianne Danica will disembark at Misrata.
